We have had a 5th grade student test positive for COVID. All students who need to quarantine have been contacted by the school. Of course, if you feel like you want to quarantine your student you are welcome to do that as well. We will have the school cleaned and ready to go by Monday.
4th grade’s last Titanic experiment was a fun one! Each student got a sheet of aluminum foil and used it to design their own boat. I put their ship to the test by dropping in marbles one at a time. Our winner held 110 marbles!

109 years ago today, the Titanic sank into the ocean. To honor this day, the students dressed up as Titanic passengers and enjoyed a 1st class dining experience, all while listening to music played by the Titanic orchestra. What a fun day we had!

Today, the students were able to meet with Jim Myers, the Education Executive for the Titanic Museum Attraction in Branson, Missouri. The students were able to ask him questions and learn so many amazing facts!

Here’s another fun Titanic experiment from 4th grade! Students began by dropping a ball of Play-Doh into a cup of water to see if it would sink or float. After discovering that it sank, the students were challenged to mold their Play-Doh into a shape that would float!

Congrats to our Culvers students of the month for April. Savannah Knight and Cully Broy

Katie King (Jones) is this weeks "Where Are They At Now" Alumni. She is also one of our school family members.
Graduation year: 2014
I completed my Associates Degree of Art and Science from Rend Lake College while playing softball. I then transferred to Eastern Illinois University where I received my Bachelor’s of Science with a major in Communication Disorders and Sciences and minor in Psychology. I continued at EIU to complete my Master’s of Communication Disorders and Sciences.
This is my first year as a speech-language pathologist (SLP). I divide my time working at both Thompsonville and Galatia School Districts. As an SLP I assess, diagnose, and treat communication and swallowing which includes articulation, language, cognition, fluency, voice, hearing, social communication, swallowing, and other communication modalities (e.g. AAC). I most often work on articulation, language, and fluency with students who can range from preschool through 12th grade.
One of my favorite memories from high school was winning 4 consecutive regional championships for softball!
Thank you Katie. We are so proud of you!!

4th graders used spaghetti noodles, marbles, 2-liters, and string for their next Titanic experiment which taught about how the Titanic cracked under the pressure of the sea. After the experiment, we read an article about the materials the Titanic was made from.

During the Titanic unit, 4th grade learned about the resurfacing of artifacts from the ocean floor and the rusting of the Titanic over the last 109 years. For the experiment, we put nails and copies of letters from the Titanic in salt water to see what would happen!

Last week, 4th grade began a 2 week unit study on the Titanic. This iceberg experiment was a huge hit! The students were amazing at how much of the “iceberg” floats above water vs. how much is below. And of course, they all wanted to feel the cold water.

Thank you Kevin Smith for the tour of the Thompsonville Post Office. The third grade class enjoyed our visit!
