🍪Middle School Summer Camp tried cooking in our solar ovens again. This time we tried cookies! The students enjoyed eating them! While our cookies were baking in the sun, we made popsicle stick chain reactions. We saw kinetic energy and potential energy in action! The pictures show the popsicle sticks flying in the air!

Middle School Summer Camp unveiled their tie dyed shirts Thursday! 💦They are beautiful! They were very creative and made many designs! We also made lava lamps. They looked groovy with a light behind them!☮️

Grade school summer camp read “Violet the Pilot” and learned about all the parts of an airplane. Students made paper airplanes and we measured the distance of each to see which plane traveled the farthest. ✈️ We also read “The Most Magnificent Thing” about making an invention and students brainstormed their own invention.🧠 We ended the day making art by using aluminum foil, markers, and water. 🖼️

Grade school read “Iggy Peck, Architect” and was challenged to make the strongest bridge out of popsicle sticks. (One bridge passed the weight test, another is going to need some reconstruction.) 🌉 Then, we read “Sticks”, colored popsicle drawings, and enjoyed some popsicles outside. 🌈

Yesterday grade school summer camp read “Blocks Come Out at Night” and were challenged to take turns adding a block to make the tallest building. 🌆 We also read “Everything You Need to Make a Treehouse” and students used different materials to build their dream treehouse. 🌳

🌈🪣Middle School Summer Camp started our tie dye today! The students worked hard at creating unique projects that they researched. I'm excited to see if their folding, banding, and coloring techniques worked! It was a very messy day, but fun!

⚗️⚛️🧪Middle School Summer Camp started the week with some "magic mixtures". We are making rock candy. It will take several days to see our results! We also made magnetic slime and experimented with neodymium magnets. The kids then made many more batches of slime to take home.

🧱Middle School Summer Camp finished up the second week with Legos! We made cars from Legos which were powered by balloons. Then we made a zip line for a Lego figure. Some Legos survived and some did not😟.

The students created their biggest challenge yet...a marble roller coaster from paper and tape! The roller coaster was a lot of work and a success!

🚢⚓️🛥️Middle School Summer Camp learned about Archimedes' principle, the physical law of buoyancy. We made aluminum foil boats and tested their ability to carry a load of pennies. Students also made boats from anything they could find. They are so creative and all of their boats floated! We had to add some cooking to our day, so we made Rice Krispie Treats!

✈️🛬🛩️Middle School Summer Camp made paper airplanes to start our second week of camp! We learned how to record multiple flights on Google Sheets and create a chart of our flights. We created airplane launchers to make our airplanes soar. The students did a great job of revising their plans to get the longest flights possible!

Grade school read “The Watcher: Jane Goodall’s Life with Chimps” and learned about Jane Goodall and her studies of chimpanzees. 🐒 Students made tools using only 5 popsicle sticks, 5 rubber bands, and 2 plastic spoons to grab termites, like chimpanzees do. They raced to see who could catch the most termites in 15 seconds. (6 was the most!) Students also learned that chimpanzees throw stones to protect themselves. We then read “Scribble Stones” and decorated/painted stones. 🪨
