Please email this to SenatorFowler59@gmail.com and severin@ilhousegop.org Parent Action Kit to Communicate with the Illinois General Assembly Directions: Copy and paste the message below in the form of an email to your senator and representative. It is recommended that you do not change the message below. It is important that a consistent and clear message is sent to the Illinois General Assembly that communities throughout the state of Illinois are requesting local control of the protocols regarding COVID-19 safety measures. _______________________________________________________________________ Email Communication to Illinois General Assembly Dear Insert Senator or Representative Name Here: This past year has been a challenging time for communities throughout the entire state of Illinois. Thank you for your leadership during the pandemic in terms of the guidance and resources used to support the work our schools do at a local level. There is no doubt that you personally have taken on several challenges in your role, and like local school leaders, many of these challenges had no clear winning outcomes. We hope to continue to have your support during this upcoming school year to ensure the safety of our students and communities while providing a high-quality educational experience. The purpose of this letter is to request local control in the implementation of COVID-19 safety measures and protocols utilized within each school district. We believe that local boards of education and superintendents are best positioned and capable of planning reasonable and safe approaches to educate the students of our communities. The past 16 months have provided our local leaders with ample experience and knowledge to lead locally with your support. We write to you to ask for your support in local district implementation. The guidance provided must not be a one-size-fits-all solution. Illinois is a large, diverse state filled with diverse school districts that educate students with unique needs and different barriers to learning. A plan that may be sensible and effective in one school district may not be sensible and effective in other districts. With your support, we can make the upcoming school year a memorable one that will help get education back-on-track by recovering learning loss, providing social-emotional support, and keeping our communities safe. Please consider allowing local control of school districts in terms of COVID-19 safety measures. Sincerely, Insert Your Name Here.

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our school family members. Mrs Debbie Heern, worked in our kitchen for over 25 years and drove a bus for our district for 10 years. She will be greatly missed, and our small school will not be the same without her. She has went through many trials in life, yet always had a smile on her face. She was willing to help anyone that needed it, especially the many students that she served in our school. She donated much of her free time in helping fundraise for St Judes. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family during this time. Debbie will always be a Thompsonville Tiger, and we know she will be watching down on us.

Our custodian team is getting some work in this summer. They have painted, put down flooring, and changed ceiling tiles in two HS classrooms. This is much needed work and we are thankful they work as hard as they do to get things like this done along with their other summertime duties. Great job guys!

As we say goodbye to our students for the summer and this crazy school year, we want to thank all of the parents/guardians, and families that worked with us this difficult year. This year has been the most difficult year this school and its employees have seen in a generation. We want everyone to know that each decision that was made this year was in the best interest of the students that go to Thompsonville. We understand that not everyone agreed with our decisions, but we want to thank you for still supporting the school through this year. We want to also thank the students this year. We know the students suffered more than anyone else this year, but the majority of them still came to school every day and made the best of a bad situation. Thank You!! Enjoy Your Summer!! You have earned it!! We will have our plan for next year out in the next couple of weeks. I will tell you that August 10th will be the first day for student attendance.
